The festival of the potato

The main cultivate crop in Ravnogor and the main means of living for the people is the potato. From ancient times the village is known as the center of eco production of potatoes in south Bulgaria. That has become possible because of the existence of one of the biggest seeds production lines before 1990. Later, after the recognition of Ravnogor as the cleanest village on the Balkans, potato production developed quickly. Nowadays the village is famous around the whole country with its organic potatoes. The holiday exists just from the autumn of 2005 but from now on it will be celebrated every year on the last Friday of October. An exhibition of potatoes and specific dishes and decorations from them is organized. Awards are given to the most successful performance.
